One of the hardest things for an addict to admit is the depth of the pain and destruction we have caused. My friend, if you can minimize the severity of your behavior while you were/are in active addiction, YOU MAY STILL BE ADDICTED. If you can still say, "Ah, I am not that bad", or "I am not hurting anybody but myself"; if you still get angry with your loved ones who are still hurting because of the your actions during your active addiction, you may still be "ADDICTED TO PRIDE". Proverbs 16:18 says, "PRIDE GOETH BEFORE DESTRUCTION AND A HAUGHTY SPIRIT BEFORE A FALL". Pride has been the cause of the downfall of many, a hindrance in the recovery process, and a major factor of relapse. We find it difficult to be honest with ourselves and others because we are prideful. We do not want to admit to our own shortcomings, nor do we want to admit when we are struggling, because we do not want anyone to know that we are failing at managing our lives on our own. We hide behind excuses when confronted about the pain we have caused those closest to us. We even try and hide these things from God, playing the victim by placing the blame on all of the bad things that has happened to us in our past. All of these scenarios happen because of pride. BUT....THERE IS HOPE FOR DELIVERANCE IN JESUS CHRIST & THE WORD OF GOD!!! 1 John 1:9 says, IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS,HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS, AND TO CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS". We must be willing to REPENT of our sin of pride, turning completely away from our own ways and TOTALLY SUBMIT UNTO GOD. The first step of repentance is SEEING PRIDE FOR WHAT IT REALLY IS. Many people do not really believe they are prideful, but pride takes many forms. It is the attitude that Satan developed when he rebelled against God. He thought that he should be the one who is to be worshiped (see Isaiah 14:12-14; Matthew 4:9). When we are in denial about our behavior during active addiction, it is because our pride will not let us be honest about the fact that we feel we have a right to run our own lives, regardless of what the Word of God says, and regardless of how we make others feel because of our actions. The second step we must make is TURN FROM OUR OLD BEHAVIOR AND EMBRACE THE LIFE OF CHRIST. Ephesians 4:20-24 says, "BUT YE HAVE NOT SO LEARNED CHRIST; IF SO BE THAT YOU HAVE HEARD HIM, AND HAVE BEEN TAUGHT BY HIM, AS THE TRUTH IS IN JESUS, THAT YE PUT OFF CONCERNING THE FORMER CONVERSATION THE OLD MAN, WHICH IS CORRUPT ACCORDING TO THE DECEITFUL LUSTS; AND BE RENEWED IN THE SPIRIT OF YOUR MIND; AND THAT YE PUT ON THE NEW MAN,WHICH AFTER GOD IS CREATED IN RIGHTEOUSNESS AND TRUE HOLINESS". We must PUT ON HUMILITY. James 4:6 says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT HE GIVETH GRACE TO THE HUMBLE". If you are READY for a BRAND NEW LIFE, pray this prayer with me:
LORD GOD, I REPENT OF THE SIN OF PRIDE. CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART AND RENEW THE RIGHT SPIRIT WITHIN ME. PURGE ME WITH HYSSOP, AND IS SHALL BE CLEAN. WASH ME, AND I SHALL BE WHITER THAN SNOW. THANK YOU FOR FORGIVING ME AND MAKING ME NEW. HELP ME DAILY TO BE WHO YOU CREATED ME TO BE. IN THE NAME OF JESUS, I PRAY. AMEN".
